Spinal Manipulation Clinic
Dr. Joe Curran is a GP for over 25 years and is also trained in spinal manipulation treatment, a specialised form of manual therapy performed using his hands to apply a controlled, sudden force to a spinal joint.
The goal of spinal manipulation treatment is to reduce pain, improve spinal motion and improve your body's physical function. Low back pain, neck pain and headaches are the most common problems for which people seek spinal manipulation treatment. Spinal manipulation has been shown to be most effective when coupled with active treatments, such as stretching and exercise, as well as lifestyle modifications.
At your initial consultation, Dr. Joe will take your medical history and perform a physical exam, with particular attention to your spine. He may also recommend other investigations such as X-rays or MRI.
Dr. Joe will determine if you are a candidate for spinal manipulation and identify any serious underlying conditions that might prevent spinal manipulation. He will refer you to the appropriate medical specialist if necessary.
The spinal manipulation treatment involves using his hands to apply a controlled, sudden force to a joint, pushing it beyond its usual range of motion. You may hear popping or cracking sounds as your joints are moved during the treatment session.
Some patients experience minor side effects for a few days after chiropractic adjustment. These may include headaches, fatigue, or pain in the parts of the body that were treated.
